Then the hospitality work came calling as I wanted to work in Weddings and Events, so naturally I started by being the events host, juggling all the tasks on 13 hour days to ensure meetings went smoothly. From set ups, client introductions, ad hoc tasks and then following up for new business, it wasn't long until I tried Managing Events. Gave it a try, but I am definitely more sales orientated than operational, but it gave me that two sided view. The events office asked me to fulfil a new role - helping the team with admin tasks and also being the right hand to the Director or Sales, researching new potential clients and getting appointments. Loved this role, and gained so much confidence.
The dream of working in weddings then came with a move to Surrey as a Wedding Co-ordinator in two amazing venues. The joy of helping couples plan their big day, meeting lots of fab suppliers and witnessing the most special moments can never be matched. But it wasn't always smooth sailing; whilst juggling hotel renovations to on the day mishaps - including an absent photographer who got dates mixed up, and was sat at the hairdressers - I learned an awful lot.
I moved back to Edinburgh at the end of 2016, working in serviced apartments & learning to do it all again, as sometimes I was the only person on-site, keeping it all running smoothly whilst ensuring we hit maximum occupancy. My goals changed and I was chasing a new title of Business Development Manager/Director of Sales. Here I found myself working at Edinburgh Zoo on the Weddings & Events team, and whilst everyone in the team was furloughed, I became a Cluster Venue Representative, being point of call for very worried clients across the UK, following different lockdown guidelines to host events and also learning new venues for new enquiries. Once everything was back to normality, I gained my sought after title here and then again to a new chapter following my second maternity leave back in the world of hotels.
Whilst my professional career continued onwards and upwards, I also created a small business of my own in the creative field with handpainted candles and workshops. Here is where I met many other small business owners and my admiration for them grew. My husband is also self employed as a joiner, and I forever find myself completing his admin tasks, championing his skills and client sourcing, so I now marry my skillset with my passion to support others to thrive in their business.
I've discovered that my Self Starter persona, the thrill of the chase in new business and joy in being that trusted person to get things done - has birthed Turneround Virtual Services, and I'm ready to help you keep things turning and turn your business from strength to strength.
So, who am I?
I'm Nicola Turner, the face behind Turneround Virtual Services. (You see what I did there, right?)
Described as a self-starter with confidence, yet maintaining an easy breezy attitude, my career has always been about driving the small, hidden tasks that gain visibility, keeping things running smoothly and ensuring those goals and targets are achieved.
From starting my professional career as an office Junior in a solicitors, I went from the post room girly everyone knew, doing the small but essential tasks to finding myself on a team as a paralegal.
